Ghana's athletics team has delivered a historic performance at the African Games, winning four gold medals across sprint and relay events. The haul represents Ghana's best athletics performance at the continental games in over two decades, signaling the emergence of a new generation of Ghanaian sprinters capable of competing at the highest level of African and international athletics.

The standout performance came from twenty-two-year-old Benjamin Azamati, who won the men's 100 meters final in a time of 9.91 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded by a Ghanaian athlete. Azamati, who trains in the United States on an athletics scholarship, followed his individual triumph by anchoring the men's 4x100 meter relay team to gold in a national record time. His performances have drawn comparisons to legendary African sprinters and generated excitement about his potential at the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

On the women's side, Halima Nakaayi-trained sprinter Latifa Ali won the 200 meters in convincing fashion, adding to her growing reputation as one of Africa's most promising young athletes. The women's 4x100 meter relay team also claimed gold, completing a sweep of the sprint relay events that demonstrated the depth of talent in Ghana's athletics programme. Both relay teams qualified for the World Athletics Championships with their performances.

The success has been attributed to increased investment in athletics infrastructure and coaching over the past five years, including the construction of a national athletics training center in Accra with a synthetic track and modern facilities. The Ghana Athletics Association has also established partnerships with international training programmes that provide elite coaching and competition opportunities for the country's most talented athletes.
