Sarkodie Launches Free Music Production Studio in Accra

Music · 2025-03-15 · By Abena Mensah

Rapper and entrepreneur Sarkodie has opened a free-to-use music production studio in the heart of Accra, providing emerging artists with access to professional recording equipment, production software, and mentorship that would otherwise be financially out of reach. The studio, named The Foundation, is located in Madina and is equipped with industry-standard recording and mixing equipment capable of producing release-ready music.

Sarkodie, widely regarded as one of Africa's greatest rappers and one of Ghana's most successful music exports, said The Foundation reflects his personal experience of struggling to find affordable studio time during the early years of his career. He recalled how the cost of recording was a major barrier that prevented many talented artists from developing their craft, and expressed his determination to remove that obstacle for the next generation of Ghanaian musicians.

The studio operates on a booking system, with aspiring artists able to reserve studio time at no cost for up to four hours per session. Professional sound engineers are available to assist with recording and basic mixing, and monthly workshops cover topics ranging from songwriting and vocal technique to music business fundamentals and social media marketing. The facility can accommodate multiple artists simultaneously across its two recording rooms and one mixing suite.

Reactions from the Ghanaian music community have been overwhelmingly positive, with fellow artists and industry figures praising Sarkodie's investment in the next generation. The studio has already received hundreds of booking requests since its soft launch, with demand far exceeding available time slots. Sarkodie's management has indicated that plans are underway to establish additional locations in Kumasi and Takoradi if the Accra facility proves successful.
