John Dumelo Opens New Film Production Studio in Tema
Actor and entrepreneur John Dumelo has unveiled a state-of-the-art film production studio in Tema, marking a significant and much-needed investment in Ghana's growing film infrastructure. The facility, named Dumelo Studios, spans over 15,000 square feet and includes two fully equipped soundstages, post-production suites, a professional sound mixing room, and modern office spaces for production companies. The studio was designed to meet international technical standards, allowing Ghanaian filmmakers to produce content that can compete with productions from anywhere in the world.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dumelo emphasized that the lack of professional studio space has long been a bottleneck for the Ghanaian film industry. Many local productions have relied on improvised locations and rented equipment, limiting the technical quality achievable. With Dumelo Studios, filmmakers will have access to controlled environments with professional lighting grids, green screen capabilities, and high-end audio recording facilities. The studio will be available for both film and television productions, as well as music video shoots and commercial content creation.
The investment has been praised by the Ghana Film Authority, which sees it as a catalyst for increasing the volume and quality of local content production. Several production companies have already expressed interest in booking the facility, with at least three feature films scheduled to begin shooting there in the coming months. Dumelo revealed that he also plans to establish a training wing within the studio complex, offering technical courses in cinematography, sound design, and visual effects to help build Ghana's behind-the-scenes talent pool.
