International film star Abraham Attah, who rose to global fame with his breakthrough performance in the 2015 film 'Beasts of No Nation,' has returned to Ghana to star in a major new Ghallywood production. The film, tentatively titled 'The Fisherman's Son,' is a coming-of-age drama set in a coastal community in the Central Region of Ghana. Attah's involvement marks his first leading role in a Ghanaian production since achieving international recognition, and his return has been celebrated as a significant boost for the local film industry.
The film is being directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso, one of Ghana's most acclaimed filmmakers, and is produced in partnership with an international co-production company that has provided substantial funding. The story follows a young man torn between pursuing his dreams of education abroad and staying to preserve his community's fishing traditions threatened by commercial trawling. Production is already underway in Cape Coast and Elmina, with additional scenes scheduled for Accra over the coming weeks.
