Member of the highlife duo Wutah, Afriyie has advised young highlife artistes to maintain interest in promoting the indigenous Ghanaian genre.
Speaking at the just ended VGMAs, he urged the winners of the Highlife Artiste and Highlife Song categories not to switch lanes in pursuing Highlife music. He added that, with a strong resolve to keeping and improving the genre, Highlife would hit the Grammys.
“So far, the nearest Ghana has gone to the Grammys is with Reggae Dancehall. It is really sad that this is happening in a country where Highlife music originates from. Let’s push Highlife music to the world!” he said.
Afriyie entreated the young crop of Highlife artistes to be consistent with Highlife music and help push the genre globally.
This year’s VGMA saw KiDi and Kuami Eugene sweep the Highlife Artiste and Highlife Song categories respectively.
