President of the Film Directors Guild of Ghana(FDGG), Richard Boateng has rendered a profound apology to Ghanaians and all stakeholders of the movie industry.
His contrition came after movie critics attacked him for changing the name of the Ghana movie industry without consulting the various stakeholders of the sector.
Richard took to Zylofon 102.1 FM to withdraw the name and ask for pardon from all Ghanaians.
“I apologise to all stakeholders of the movie industry who have been offended or disrespected by the unveiling of the name Gollywood at the summit. If the people do not accept it, so be it. We have dropped the name”
However, Richard denied all accusations of renaming the sector without consultation, as he said the agenda has been under discussion since the beginning of the year.
He stated that, no one objected to the new name at the summit where Gollywood was unveiled, hence, he is surprised at the backlash that followed after the decision was made.
