Ace broadcaster, Quophi Okyeame has urged songwriters and composers to take steps in making money off their craft.
Speaking at the media launch of Ghana Association of Songwriters (G.A.S) on product branding, the former member of Akyeame said,”Songwriting in itself is good business capable of giving individuals more than enough to last a lifetime.”
He added, the birth of G.A.S would see vast opportunities emerge to create a condusive business acumen for songwriters.
The Ghana Association of Songwriters (G.A.S), a body reserved for songwriters and composers was outdoored today, June 22.
GAS is committed to protecting the artistic rights of songwriters,as well as sanitizing music content and serving as Artiste & Repertoire(A&R) and publishing consultancy services.
The main brain behind GAS and CEO of Greater David Communications,Emmanuel Barnes [Mr. Logic] outlined the aims and long and short-term programmes of G.A.S.
He said: “GAS is here to sanitize music content. It is to regulate the promotion of sex, violence and other immoral acts.”
At the sitting, which brought together major stakeholders in the entertainment industry, the Reggae/Dancehall promoter also mentioned that GAS would institutionalize awards scheme solely for songwriters dubbed the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Awards. Mr. Logic lamented how songwriters are sidelined in most of the awards schemes.
“Songwriters do not get credit for their work. the musicians get all the awards. The Hall Of Fame Awards would reward song writers in all regular awards categories.”
He expressed gratitude to CEO of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah for the support, MUSIGA, GHAMRO, publishers and media for helping his dream to materialize.
