Gyan Explains Why He Accepted Pay Cut To Remain At Kayserispor

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he decided to reward Kayserispor’s fans with a huge pay cut to enable his stay at the club due to their support.

The 32-year-old, who was on a £227,000 per week in China between 2015 and 2017, joined the Turkish side from Shanghai SIPG last season, but could only boast of one goal after 12 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig.

Although he was rumoured to be on his way out of Kayserispor following concerns about his earnings as compared with his performance, he decided to settle for a pay cut to prove a point.

“I’ve explained the situation leading to my decision for a pay cut to the administration. I believe it was an unfair profit [for me] after the first season, so I offered a refund,” Gyan said as quoted by Ghanaweb.

“Ahead of the upcoming season, we’ve had a discount in my contract and I’m going to play for one portion out of three as compared to my previous contract. It is well deserving due to the factors.

“I cannot leave the club and the love of the fans without a reward since I believe I’ll return to my old days [next season],” he added.

Gyan has been joined at Kayserispor by countryman Bernard Mensah from La Liga side Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal, with the duo expected to lead the club’s attack.
