GhanaWeb Wins Google Funding To Help Thrive Journalism In The Digital Era

The news website has won its first Google News Initiative (GNI) innovative challenge for its project, GhanaWeb Reporter. This project will inject new ideas into the global new ecosystem.

Google, announced in February 2020, the GhanaWeb project has been listed among 21 projects from 13 countries in the Middle-East, Turkey and Africa region.

According to Google, listed countries will receive $1.93 million in funding. Eight of the projects are from African countries including Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa,, Cote D’Ivoire and Morocco.

GhanaWeb is the only news agency from Ghana to receive the highly coveted award.

The GhanaWeb Reporter is an app for both Android and IOS devices that enables GhanaWeb’s 4 million monthly unique visitors to republish their user generated content (UGC) directly.
